An Expression Compiler

This paper describes a set of subroutines for compiling and evaluating string expressions and their derivatives. The expression is first translated into ``object code'', which consists of a symbol table, and a list of operations which evaluates the expression. Subroutines are provided for querying and filling in the symbol table, for constructing object code for derivatives of the expression, and for executing the object code.
